The Group Overview tab gives you a detailed, holistic view of an organization/group’s behavior over time within a selected set of brand groups. Similar to the Top Groups tab, this tab can be viewed as a year-over-year comparison for either a full year or for year-to-date. It also requires you to select an initial year and quarter to use as the comparison point for all the graphs and tables on this tab. The first 2 charts can display data as total number of events, total square footage used, or average square footage used.
The Group Overview tab can be filtered by event year and month (taking into account your selected year, quarter, and year prior so you don’t exclude all the relevant data for the tab), event largest room, and multi-night event. Additional filters include hotel brand group, brand, market, chain scale, and region.
Each set of data is displayed as a graphical chart, or charts and a table, which displays the raw values used in the accompanying charts. This makes it easier for you to identify the overall picture of each specific data set, while being able to quickly access the detailed data behind the visualization for further clarity.
Change in Share: Quarter-over-Quarter and Year-over-Year (Chart and Table)
The Change in Share chart and table display the difference in the selected metric (number of events in the above image) quarter-over-quarter and year-over-year for the current filtered brand groups and the selected year and quarter.
The quarter-over-quarter change compares the selected quarter of the chosen year to that quarter of the year prior. In the pictured example above, 2015 Q4 is the selected year and quarter; the change in quarter therefore compares a group’s number of events during the time to the number of events for the same group in 2014 Q4.
The year-over-year change considers the same years, but also considers the selected year-over-year type. The above image compares the full year 2015 to the full year 2014 for the selected group.
Quarter-by-Quarter and Year-by-Year Comparisons (Charts and Table)
The quarter-by-quarter and year-by-year charts and tables display totals for the metric selected (number of events displayed in the example above) for the selected quarter and 3 quarters prior; as well as selected year and 3 years prior. The year-over-year type is considered for year comparisons, but is not applied to the quarterly comparisons.
Top Market: Year-over-Year Comparisons
The Top Markets chart in the year-over-year comparison is similar to the Top Group List in the Top Groups tab. It lists all the markets within the filtered data set in which an organization/group has held events. Markets will be displayed by the selected metric (the metric pictured in the example above is number of events). This dynamic list allows you to use different comparison types to see how a group’s behavior is trending across selected brand groups in all relevant markets.
All data comparisons are based on the selected year and quarter, as well as the selected year-over-year type (the example above shows 2015 Q4 Full Year, so the chart compares 2015 to 2014 for each full calendar year). Each comparison type lets you view the relative change between the selected years for the group in each distinct market.
Note: The selected comparison type only applies to the value displayed in the list and its change color. All types are available when you hover over an individual cell so you can get a full picture of an individual market’s growth within a brand group at once.
Available comparison types include:
- ∆ Year over Year Event Count: The calculated change in total events between the selected year and the year prior (for the selected year-over-year type).
- ∆ Year over Year Percent Share: The percentage change between the selected year and the year prior (for the selected year-over-year type) of the individual brand group’s percent share of a specific market within the current filtered data set.
- ∆ Year over Year Percent Growth: The percentage growth between the selected year and the year prior (for the selected year-over-year type) of the individual brand group’s number of events within a market.
- Market Share (Selected Year): The percent share for each market across the filtered brand groups only for the selected year within the current filtered data set.
- Total Event Count: The all-time total number of events occurring at each selected brand group in markets within the current filtered data set.
Event Count by Largest Room Used: All-Time and Year-over-Year (Charts and Table)
There are 2 charts and a table that display data on the largest room used by the selected group/organization for its meetings and events, organized by size category (small, medium, large). The all-time event count displays the disbursement of the group’s total events over all time, by size category and for each of the brand groups selected in the filters. The year-over-year comparison shows the change in the group’s event counts by size category and brand group between the selected year and the year prior (by year-over-year type). The data behind each of these charts is displayed in the table beneath them.
Event Count by Day of Week: All-Time and Year-over-Year (Charts and Table)
The all-time and year-over-year charts for Event Counts by Day of Week show the group’s total event counts within the filtered data set, broken out by brand group and day of the week. The chart for change year-over-year shows the difference in total event count between the selected year and the year prior for each day of the week. It is important to note that these charts are highly influenced by Knowland’s historical reading patterns. The table below the charts reflects the data behind both the total and the change year-over-year.
Event Count by Event Length: All-Time and Year-over-Year (Charts and Table)
The all-time and year-over-year charts and table for Event Count by Length of Event show event counts within the filtered data set broken out by brand group and whether the event was single-day or multi-day (1 night, 2-3 nights, or 4+ nights). The all-time chart shows the total number of events for each category within the filtered data set. The change year-over-year calculates the net change of events between the selected year and the year prior within the selected data set. The table beneath the charts shows the data behind both charts.
